Putting My Experience to Work

In 1975, my family fled Vietnam by boat during the war, and I struggled to learn English and worked two jobs to support my family. I completed college here, and I’m proud to be a first generation college graduate in my family. My own immigrant experience showed me the value of education, and I am passionate about ensuring that our younger generation has good opportunities to live in the American dream. As a Vietnamese refugee who has lived and worked in San Jose for the past 40 years, I have dedicated my life to public service and to helping our community, especially refugees and immigrants from all countries. I am a strong advocate for inclusivity and diversity in our community. If elected, I would be the only Vietnamese and Asian on the San Jose City Council.
I have been deeply involved in public service to San Jose over the past three decades, serving as the Board President of the East Side Union High School District in 2015 & 2021. In addition to being a trustee of the East Side Union High School District since 2010, I also have strong ties to regional and state level organizations serving families and communities. I'm a delegate to the California School Board Association, Board member of Work2Future, Former Vice President of the Little Saigon Foundation, Former Board Member of the Viet Heritage Society, Former Vice President of Vietnamese Americans in Northern California. My past community service also includes boardmember of the Boy Scouts of America and MetroED.
